The 2022 Legal Service Forum on the Maritime Silk Road Opening in Guangzhou

The 2022 Legal Service Forum on the Maritime Silk Road (hereafter referred to as ‘the forum’) was held in Guangzhou on July 24. The forum was co-hosted by the Belt and Road International Lawyers Association Guangzhou Center (hereafter referred to as ‘BRILA Guangzhou Center’) and Guangzhou Lawyers Association, and was participated both online and offline. Mr. KANG Yu, Secretary General of the Belt and Road International Lawyers Association, Mr. LIANG Zhen, Deputy Director General of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Justice, Mr. DENG Zhongwen, Director General of the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice, and Mr. PAN Zhijun, Governor of Baiyun District, Guangzhou City attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

The speakers and representatives all consider that the rule of law is an important guarantee for the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and lawyers, as an important force in promoting the rule of law, have great potential in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. Since the establishment of BRILA Guangzhou Center, it has been pragmatic and efficient in its work, playing a leading role in making positive contributions to the exchanges and cooperation in the field of legal services between China and the Belt and Road countries and regions. The success of the forum is conducive to strengthening the exchange on foreign-related legal services, enhancing mutual understanding, creating innovative ideas, and enlightening legal wisdom. Based on this, pragmatic cooperation and win-win outcomes will be achieved.

The forum brings together many experts and scholars, business leaders and legal practitioners from China and beyond. Their discussions focus on the following topics: integrated development of prevention and resolution on international commercial disputes, strengthening the coordination between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao rules to build a new cluster of legal services at the Greater Bay Area, new opportunities and challenges of legal services on international shipping, the Belt and Road digital ecosystem, new opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment for Hong Kong and Macao youths at Nansha district of Guangzhou, a global vision: legal conflict and integration of deepening the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau comprehensive cooperation, investment opportunities in countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road, and etc. Under these topics, they explore how legal services can play an active role in the joint construction of BRI, so as to contribute to the steady and long-term development of the BRI based on the rule of law.

The representatives hoped to further strengthen cooperation and exchanges, learn from each other, and achieve win-win outcomes in the future. They would like to jointly promote the high quality development of foreign-related legal services with bigger goals, farther vision and stronger synergy, in order to make greater contributions to the new development pattern featuring a virtuous dual cycle of domestic and international economy.
