On November 10, 2023, the second International Legal Service Forum of Zhejiang on the theme of “Serve the Promotion of Opening Up and Build a Province with the Best Business Environment under the Rule of Law”, jointly hosted by the BRILA Hangzhou Center and the Zhejiang Lawyers Association, was held in Hangzhou, with support from BRILA, the Zhejiang Development and Reform Commission, and the Zhejiang Department of Justice. Hu Wei, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government attended the forum and delivered a speech. Kang Yu, BRILA Secretary General was invited to attend the forum. The opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Zhongyi, the Director General of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Justice.

Vice Governor Hu Wei pointed out that in recent years, in implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, Zhejiang Province has vigorously promoted the rule of law in Zhejiang, innovated institutions and mechanisms, improved service quality and efficiency, and strengthened capacity building. The rule of law and legal services related to foreign affairs have gained momentum and entered the “fast lane”. He hopes that lawyers will actively shoulder the new responsibilities of the legal profession in the new era, strive to improve the level of international legal services in Zhejiang Province aligned with the new positioning of the province as a pioneer on the “Chinese path to modernization”.

Secretary General Kang Yu delivered a keynote speech titled “Playing the Functional Role of BRILA, Serving the High-Quality Development of the ‘Belt and Road’” at the main forum. He mentioned that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the BRI, the keynote speech delivered by President Xi Jinping at the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation provides guidance for further works of BRILA in the future. With great supports from various parties, BRILA will fully leverage the functional role of a professional international lawyers organization, live up to expectations from various parties, forge ahead, and strive to build BRILA into an international lawyers organization with global influence, in an effort to contribute to strengthening international legal exchanges and cooperation as well as serving the high-quality development of the BRI.

Leaders and guests from relevant departments in Zhejiang Province,  members of BRILA, universities and industry associations, leaders of law firms, directors of professional committees of the provincial lawyers association, delegation of BRILA, and representatives of foreign-related lawyers, totaling more than 240 delegates, participated in the forum.
