On June 25, 2024, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) officially notified the Belt and Road International Lawyers Association (BRILA) of its grant of Special Consultative Status.
The United Nations recognizes important international non-governmental organizations and enables them to play a role in international affairs by granting them consultative status. With Special Consultative Status, BRILA can establish various forms of contact with the UN, provide expert opinions and suggestions to ECOSOC, participating in activities of UN ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies and the Human Rights Council, attending meetings of the UN General Assembly and other intergovernmental bodies under certain conditions.
The Belt and Road International Lawyers Association is an international professional organization initiated by the All China Lawyers Association, with voluntary membership from bar associations, legal institutions, and individual lawyers from countries and regions of the Belt and Road. After more than four years of persistent efforts, BRILA has achieved initial success in promoting international cooperation of Belt and Road legal services and assisting the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, gaining widespread recognition and support .
Next, BRILA will actively participate in various meetings and activities of UN ECOSOC, continue to leverage its resources and professional advantages, strengthen platform capacity building, promote international exchanges and cooperation, play the role of an international professional organization in the formulation of international laws and rules, and contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. BRILA will also actively provide more internationally influential and professional legal service for the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
